Tottenham has officially announced through its official website the renewal of Argentine defender Cristian Romero's contract for an extended period with the team.

Romero joined Tottenham in August 2021 on loan from Italian club Atalanta, before signing permanently with the team the following season. Romero is considered one of the key pillars in the team's defense, having participated in 126 matches so far and scored 8 goals.

Romero was appointed as the team's captain before the UEFA Super Cup match, and he has also served as vice-captain alongside James Maddison since August 2023. The player had an outstanding season in the Premier League, participating in 33 matches and scoring 5 goals.

On the international level, Romero has played 44 matches with the Argentina national team, achieving several important titles including the Copa America in 2021 and 2024, the Intercontinental Cup, and winning the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Although the club has not announced the duration of the new contract, some media reports have indicated that Romero has signed a new contract with Tottenham until 2029.
