Ekitike: I Can Do Better, Neymar and Benzema Are My Role Models
Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike appeared in press statements after the 4-2 victory over Bournemouth in the first round of the Premier League at Anfield.
Ekitike said: "I think we performed well, but I know I can do better. The most important thing tonight is the win and the mentality we showed. We wanted to win for the fans who attended, and for Diogo, and we did that, so I'm happy for everyone."
He added: "I still have a lot of things to improve. I tried to help the team as much as possible, and I know I can do more. I will improve and give more to this team."
Regarding his role models in football, he said: "When I was young, I had two favorite players, Neymar and Karim Benzema. I really like Benzema; what he has done for football makes him my role model."
As for the instructions from his coach Arne Slot, he concluded: "I changed my playing style here; the style of football is different and at a higher intensity. Defenders are stronger, and the spaces are much tighter compared to what I used to find in Germany, where I had much more space. That's why I try to drop back to receive the ball, connect, and then sprint behind the defense. We need to find the right way to succeed through the details, and we must constantly improve."
