Mohamed Salah's Impact: UEFA Announces Support for Children in Gaza
Wednesday 13-08-2025
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced through its charitable foundation for children a new initiative to support children affected by wars around the world, focusing this time on children in Gaza, who face what the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, described as a "humanitarian disaster of enormous proportions."

The new partnerships involve collaboration with three major humanitarian organizations: "Doctors of the World" (Médecins du Monde), "Doctors Without Borders" (Médecins sans Frontières), and the "International Campaign to Ban Landmines" (Handicap International), each providing vital assistance to children in different ways.

Commenting on the initiative, Aleksander Čeferin, President of UEFA and head of the UEFA Foundation for Children, said: "No matter the justifications of those who wage wars, children are innocent, yet they pay the price every day. It is our duty to stand by them and support those who are working to make their lives more bearable, and to provide them with the safety, love, and hope they need to grow up and change the world."

The UEFA initiative comes just days after Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, Liverpool's player, interacted with a post from UEFA on the platform "X", mourning the martyrdom of former Palestinian football player Suleiman Al-Abid, nicknamed "the Pelé of Palestine", in the Gaza Strip.

Salah responded to the post with a tweet saying: "Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?", a message that sparked widespread interaction and gained significant attention worldwide in recent days.
