Bougra: We aspire to win the African Championship for Locals.. A surprise in the Arab Cup list
Majid Bougra, coach of the Algerian national team for locals, confirmed that the preparations for the "Greens" for the African Cup of Nations for locals face significant difficulties, both in terms of time and its impact on local clubs, emphasizing that the goal is to win the continental title.
Bougra said during a press conference held at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Baraki: "The preparations are difficult for us and our competitors, and even for Algerian clubs due to the absence of several players who are with us."
He added: "We have only 12 training sessions before the start of the tournament, while ideal preparations require at least four weeks."
Bougra raised the bar of ambitions, confirming: "Our goal in the upcoming edition is clear.. we play to win the cup."
The Algerian national team will kick off its continental campaign with a strong match against the Ugandan national team next Monday, as part of the tournament that will take place between August 2 and 30, 2025.
The coach of the Greens acknowledged the negative impact on some clubs in the Algerian league, saying: "The federation sent the preparation program in advance to the clubs, and we are not selfish, but we are preparing players for the national team and their clubs at the same time."
Regarding the Arab Cup 2025 scheduled to be held in Qatar between December 1 and 18, Bougra clarified that the squad will not be limited to local players, stating: "The list may include professionals playing in Gulf leagues.. the Arab Cup will be an important opportunity, and the competition will be strong."
Bougra revealed plans for two friendly matches, the first against the Mauritanian national team, and the second is likely to be against an Algerian club like Chabab de Saoura.
He also spoke about changes in the defense line after the absence of both Abdel Lawi and Kaddad, indicating that he will give opportunities to players like Alilat and Abada to prove themselves.
The Algerian delegation traveling to Uganda will include 28 players, to ensure high technical and physical readiness throughout the tournament.
Bougra hopes that the national local team will perform in a way that reflects the development of Algerian football and enhances the position of the "Greens" at the continental level.
