Moamen Suleiman: This is What the Iraqi League Lacks
Egyptian Moamen Suleiman, the head coach of Al-Shorta Club, confirmed that the last football season in Iraq was one of the most competitive and strongest seasons, pointing out that Al-Zawraa's return to the title race added a thrilling atmosphere that increased the excitement of the championship until its final stages.
Suleiman led Al-Shorta to win the Iraqi league title deservedly, after a perfect season that ended with a 10-point lead over the closest pursuer, Al-Zawraa. In his talk to the official page of the Iraqi league, the head coach revealed his technical vision for the upcoming season, describing it as the "most difficult" in light of the strong reinforcements made by the promoted teams, alongside the efforts of many other teams to enter the competition.
Suleiman said: "The competition is fair and just in the Iraqi league, and this is essential for the success of any championship. It is true that the pressure of matches was high, yet the Iraqi federation insisted on holding this number of matches, and we must deal with reality in a way that suits the circumstances."
The Al-Shorta coach praised the development in Iraqi football on several levels, most notably the introduction of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology, which he described as a positive step despite some observations on the speed of decision-making, calling for improvements in the technical application and handling of refereeing cases with more decisiveness and speed.
He pointed out that the teams that competed last season will face greater competition this season, stating: "Al-Zawraa was a fierce opponent last season, but the upcoming season will witness a strong return for Al-Student and Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, which will make the title decision postponed until the final rounds."
Moamen Suleiman emphasized that fans play a significant role in developing the league, describing them as the "first pillar" in the equation of football, saying: "We strive to deliver an enjoyable performance with Al-Shorta because football exists for the audience, and we must respect this crucial element in the success of any football system."
He added: "What has been achieved in Iraq over the past four years is considered an amazing development, whether in terms of infrastructure, stadiums, or even the overall organization of tournaments. There is a real ambition, and it must be accompanied by greater development in the work environment, including training grounds, which are the cornerstone in developing players, and this will ultimately reflect on the national team."
The Al-Shorta coach concluded his remarks by emphasizing that achieving the title for the second consecutive season requires significant and multiplied efforts, given the closeness of levels and the great effort exerted by other clubs.
