Atletico Madrid has officially announced the signing of American international midfielder Johnny Cardoso from Real Betis, with a contract extending until the summer of 2030.

The Madrid club reached an agreement with Betis for the transfer of 23-year-old Cardoso to strengthen the team's midfield for the upcoming season.

Cardoso, born on September 20, 2001, in Denville, New Jersey, and of Brazilian descent, holds an Italian passport, allowing him not to occupy a non-EU player spot. He previously played for Brazilian club Internacional, where he made 144 appearances before moving to Betis in January 2024.

Cardoso is known for his great abilities as a central player, excelling in recovering and distributing the ball efficiently, making him a strong addition to Atletico Madrid's midfield in the upcoming seasons.
