Shikabala's Statements After Announcing His Retirement
Mamdouh Abdelrazek Shikabala, captain of the Zamalek team, revealed the reasons that led him to retire from football and end his long journey with the White Castle.
Shikabala appeared in tonight's episode of the program 'Kora with Faiq' on MBC Masr channel, and the Zamalek captain appeared very emotional at the moment he announced his decision to retire permanently.
Shikabala said in his talk: 'I feel that I have given everything I have, and my journey ended well with the title of the Egypt Cup, and the Zamalek fans are of course happy, and I won’t be able to offer anything new.'
He added: 'The Zamalek officials tried to persuade me to postpone the decision, but I made it definitively, and retirement is a part of life in the world of football, and I hope a new Shikabala will emerge at the club.'
He continued: 'I know that I have the opportunity to bid farewell to the Zamalek fans through a farewell match, so I approached Mohamed Abdelshafi after winning the Egypt Cup to share the moment of saying goodbye to the fans, as he does not intend to hold a farewell match, and he is the greatest player to enter the club's dressing room in my opinion.'
He added: 'Abdelshafi deserves the love of the Zamalek fans, and he deserves this ending, and I insisted on him entering the camp. As for my retirement, there were attempts to convince me to continue for another season, but I made the decision definitively.'
Shikabala denied the rumors about his request to stay with Zamalek for another season, confirming that his current contract extends until next summer.
