Atletico Madrid officially announced today, Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the signing of Italian left-back Matteo Ruggeri from Atalanta, on a contract that extends until June 30, 2030.

Ruggeri was born on July 11, 2002, in San Giovanni Bianco, Lombardy, and joined Atalanta's academy at the age of nine, before making his first-team debut in November 2020 in the Champions League against Liverpool.

Ruggeri is known for his defensive abilities, crossing skills, and stamina, having spent the 2021/2022 season on loan at Salernitana before returning to establish himself with Atalanta, participating in 48 matches in the 2023/2024 season.

Ruggeri has also represented Italy at all age levels and was recently called up to the senior national team to participate in the UEFA Nations League.

Signing Ruggeri is a strong addition for Atletico Madrid, as the team seeks to strengthen its squad with young players of high potential to compete in all competitions.
