Sporting Lisbon President: We Don't Feel Pressured to Sell Gyokeres
Sunday 29-06-2025
Frederico Varandas, the president of the Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon, confirmed that the club does not feel any pressure to sell its Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres during the summer transfer window, emphasizing his respect for the player's wishes at the same time.

Varandas stated in his remarks: "Sporting is in a very calm position regarding Gyokeres' future; we are no longer in a phase where we have to sell our best players. We do not need to sell him, but at the same time, we respect Viktor's dreams."

He added: "We have a clear commitment, which I agreed upon, not to ask for the full buyout clause and to be reasonable in our evaluation of what he has offered last season."

Regarding the possibility of the player leaving this summer, Varandas clarified: "If you ask me today, I think there is a high possibility of his departure. In recent weeks, I have seen players like Zubimendi, who is six months younger than Viktor, move to Arsenal for 65 million euros, and I have seen other players in the Premier League like Matheus Cunha and Mbeumo, even though they are not at Viktor's level in my opinion, being negotiated for 75 million euros."

He continued: "Therefore, based on what we are asking from interested clubs, I believe the deal could happen, unless Viktor has the worst agent in the world, which I completely rule out because he is one of the best players in the world."

Regarding the financial amount required, the president of Sporting said: "I will not announce the figure we are asking for; the player's agent has already been informed of this. What I can confirm is that Viktor will not leave for 60 + 10 million euros."

Varandas concluded his remarks by saying: "We want Sporting fans to enjoy this special summer after achieving the double. There are only two scenarios: either a club comes that respects the player's market value and fulfills Viktor's dream, or he stays with us, and we will be happy with that."
