Reports have revealed today, Monday, that Florian Wirtz, the star of Bayer Leverkusen, is close to joining Liverpool during the summer transfer window.

According to The Athletic, Wirtz is scheduled to undergo a medical examination next Friday, in preparation for completing the deal worth £100 million, in addition to £16 million in additional incentives.

The network pointed out that the German player will sign a 5-year contract with Liverpool, becoming the second signing for the Reds from Leverkusen this summer after Jeremy Frimpong.

Bayern Munich was one of the prominent clubs interested in acquiring Wirtz, but the player preferred to join Liverpool, despite reaching a preliminary agreement with the Bavarian club, according to statements from Max Eberl, the sports director of Bayern.

It is worth noting that the 22-year-old Wirtz participated in 45 matches with Bayer Leverkusen last season, during which he scored 16 goals and provided 15 assists.

Wirtz had previously won the German league title with the team, along with two cup and super titles in the previous season.
