
Officially.. Saudi Arabia and Qatar to Host Asian Playoff
The Asian Football Confederation announced today, Friday, in an official statement, that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Qatar will host the Asian playoff qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
The teams qualified for the Asian playoff are the UAE, Qatar, Indonesia, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, with the draw scheduled for July 17.
Each group will consist of 3 teams, and each team will play two matches, with the group winners qualifying directly for the 2026 World Cup.
The second-placed teams will play two matches, home and away, with the winner qualifying for the global playoff for the World Cup.
The playoff matches are set to take place between October 8 and 14, while the matches qualifying for the global playoff will take place between November 13 and 18, 2025.
It is worth noting that Asian federations had requested the Asian playoff matches to be held on neutral ground.
