Lewandowski: Alonso Will Make Real Madrid a Dangerous Team
The Dutchman Robert Lewandowski, forward for Barcelona, expressed his opinion on Real Madrid's signing of the Spaniard Xabi Alonso to take over as head coach of the first team, succeeding the Italian Carlo Ancelotti.
Lewandowski confirmed in press statements that he knows Alonso well since they played together at Bayern Munich, pointing out that they have a strong relationship and that he always expected Alonso to become an exceptional coach.
Lewandowski said: "Xabi is a good coach and can help Real Madrid; he might need some time, but he is well-prepared for this challenge. We need to be ready to face them; it won't be easy, but it depends on us."
He added: "What Ancelotti achieved with Real Madrid is unbelievable, as he has won the Champions League several times, while Xabi is still at the beginning of his coaching career and will bring new blood and different ideas to the locker room. I am sure Real Madrid will be a dangerous team next season."
Regarding the Ballon d'Or, the Barcelona star said: "Does France Football owe me the Ballon d'Or? Yes, but I think it's great for a player from Barcelona to win it, even though I don't know exactly what the criteria are this season."
He continued his talk about his teammate Lamine Yamal, stating: "Lamine has exceptional talent, and mentally he seems like he's 24 years old, despite his young age. He has played at a very high level in the last three months, and if he maintains his desire to work for years, he can win many titles."
He added: "Does he have a chance to win the Ballon d'Or this year? Of course, but everything depends on the criteria that will be followed, as they vary from year to year."
Lewandowski also discussed Juan Garcia, the Espanyol goalkeeper rumored to join Barcelona, saying: "He has had a good season and is a distinguished goalkeeper, but the difference is that at Barcelona, teams will get only one or two chances, and the goalkeeper must be able to save them. So I don't want to talk too much because I don't have all the details."
At the end of his statements, the Polish forward talked about Barcelona's absence from the FIFA Club World Cup, saying: "This will not be good for the competitors, as they will not have enough rest or time to prepare for the season. Throughout the season, there is a natural decline in level, and if we use this time well to gather points, it could be very beneficial for us."
Robert Lewandowski's contract with Barcelona ends on June 30, 2026, and he still has one additional season left on his contract.
