Barcelona Responds to Potential UEFA Sanctions in the Champions League
Wednesday 04-06-2025
Barcelona has responded to reports indicating that it may face sanctions from the European Football Association due to repeated violations of financial fair play rules.

According to the British newspaper "The Times", Barcelona, along with other clubs such as Chelsea and Aston Villa, faces the risk of sanctions that could include a ban from participating in European competitions next season.

In contrast, Barcelona issued an official statement confirming that it has recently completed the regular financial audit conducted by UEFA every two years, noting that it has not yet received any notification regarding the results or potential consequences of this audit.

According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", Barcelona believes that the dispute with UEFA relates to the non-recognition of certain financial transactions, such as what is known as financial levers, as operational revenues, in contrast to what is adopted by the Spanish league.

Barcelona had lost an appeal last October before the Court of Arbitration for Sport regarding a fine of 500,000 euros for submitting inaccurate financial reports, with the court warning against any new violations that could lead to more severe penalties.

Subsequent reports indicated that the club had committed new violations related to the misclassification of long-term broadcasting rights revenues, leading to exceeding the allowed spending limits.

The Financial Control Board for Clubs is expected to issue its final decisions regarding these violations later this June.
