Slot: This is what we need to do to continue competing, and we deserved the draw
Liverpool coach Arne Slot appeared in press statements after the draw against Crystal Palace with a score of 1-1, in the latest round of the English Premier League.
The coach said: "Since they stepped onto Anfield or in an away match, the players have given everything they have, and they did it again today. Playing with ten players and being behind by a goal, any ordinary team would likely lose that match, but this team and its fans do not accept losing a football match, so we worked together again, and worked harder, and we managed to score a goal, which, in my opinion, we definitely deserved."
Regarding the feeling of lifting the Premier League trophy: "It's special, the nice thing is that when you win the cup four weeks ago, you get to live two moments like this, whereas usually, you only get one moment in other countries."
On the passing of 12 months since Jürgen Klopp's departure and him singing his name: "Amazing! What he did was amazing, to sing to me in a moment that is very special for him, as he really wanted to help the club and the team, and help the team in the upcoming season, and that’s what he did at that moment, and what he did even before that, because he left the team in an excellent position, disciplined, and efficient, which made my life and work easier, and life as a coach in the Premier League is never easy due to all the competitors, but he didn’t leave the club in a better position than he left it."
On whether the transfer market will be busy for the club: "We are indeed having a busy summer after renewing the contracts of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, and we are trying to strengthen the team, which is what we always try to do, if we feel we can do it. Last season, we decided to maintain the cohesion of the team.
He concluded: "Someone told me, and I’m not entirely sure of the accuracy of this, that since Sir Alex Ferguson won the league, no team has had as many minutes played by academy players as we have this season, but we want more because our competitors want more too, and they have already invested a lot of money last season, some again during the winter transfer window, and I think if we want to continue competing, we have to do some things there too, but we are very happy with the team we have."
