The Spanish Football Federation has appointed international referee Muniz Ruiz to officiate the crucial match between Espanyol and Las Palmas, scheduled for the day after tomorrow in the final round of the 2024/2025 Spanish league, which will determine Espanyol's fate in the relegation battle in La Liga.

This will be the second match that Muniz Ruiz officiates for Espanyol this season, following the team's encounter against Real Madrid last February, which sparked widespread controversy due to a strong challenge from Carlos Romero on Kylian Mbappe, for which he was only penalized with a yellow card.

This decision, which was not corrected by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) led by Javier Iglesias, resulted in the referee being suspended from officiating for three matches.

Despite the refereeing controversy, Espanyol won that match against Real Madrid 1-0. As for Las Palmas, Muniz Ruiz officiated one match for them this season in round 14, which they lost at home to Mallorca with a score of 3-2.
