Laporta Gives Green Light to Renew De Jong's Contract
Tuesday 13-05-2025
Barcelona continues its efforts to renew the contract of Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong, following his impressive performance in the recent Clasico match against Real Madrid, which reaffirmed his value as a key player in the team's future project.

The Clasico showcased remarkable statistics for the Dutch player, with a passing accuracy rate of 93%, and he successfully completed 100% of his passes in the attacking third, in addition to excelling in duels, making him one of the standout stars of the match.

De Jong enjoys direct support from the club's president Joan Laporta, who wishes for him to stay, despite previous criticisms and calls for his sale in 2022. The player, for his part, has surpassed the phase of doubt and has reaffirmed his right to wear the captain's armband for the Catalan team.

Despite having one of the highest salaries within the club, the ongoing negotiations aim to renew his contract in exchange for a salary reduction, in line with the club's new financial policy.

It is expected that Barcelona's management will finalize De Jong's future in the coming weeks, after the end of the season, amid a mutual desire to continue the relationship between both parties.
