Officially.. Liverpool Announces Van Dijk's Contract Renewal

Liverpool Football Club has officially announced the renewal of veteran Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk's contract, which was set to expire this summer.

The club stated in its announcement: "Virgil van Dijk has today signed a new contract with Liverpool Football Club, extending his stay at the club beyond the 2024-2025 season."

It added: "The captain has signed the contract to ensure his continued association with the Reds in the coming seasons, after nearly seven and a half years since joining Anfield."

Van Dijk said: "I am very happy and very proud. There are obviously a lot of emotions running through my mind right now as I talk about this matter."

He added: "It’s a feeling of pride, it’s a feeling of joy. It’s simply incredible. My professional journey so far, and being able to extend it for another two years at this club is amazing, and I’m very happy."

He concluded: "Liverpool has always been my choice. That’s how it has been. It was always in my mind, it was always the plan, and Liverpool has always been my choice. I had no doubt that this was the right place for me and my family, I am one of Liverpool’s own. Someone recently described me as a Liverpool resident by adoption, I am very proud to hear those words, they give me a wonderful feeling."

Van Dijk will remain at Liverpool until the summer of 2027.
