Slot: Alisson was our savior, and it has been a tough season
Liverpool manager Arne Slot appeared in a press statement after the 2-1 victory over West Ham United in the 32nd round of the Premier League.
The coach said: "I think I lost my cool for six or seven minutes. Today was similar; we scored a goal in the last moments of the match, and there were still seven minutes left. I love referees who give long extra time, especially if the opposing team is wasting a lot of time, but we didn't do that at all, yet seven minutes were added. The players fought hard, and I tried like them from the sidelines to motivate them with all I had. We survived a clear goal because the opponent headed the ball and hit the crossbar in injury time."
He added: "What was the team's reaction after West Ham's goal? This is what we have been used to all season. After the disappointment of exiting the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain, we came back to show ourselves again. We display this fighting performance every three days. We don’t win matches easily by just having the ball and passing it five times before scoring. If we win anything this season, it will be thanks to the mentality of the players that showed up again today. We needed Alisson today, as Lucas Paquetá and Mohammed Kudus delivered an amazing performance, especially in the second half. Our quick scoring shows the mental strength these players possess."
He continued: "The first half was very good, with many movements and running; we controlled the match and should have gone ahead by a second goal. In the second half, things became more difficult after they strengthened their midfield with more players. Mohammed Kudus started moving everywhere, and it was hard to contain him, which led to creating opportunities for them, especially since they have Jarrod Bowen, a player who excels at moving behind the defense, making the task challenging. Fortunately, Alisson was present on several occasions and saved us."
He concluded: "The entire season has been extremely difficult. Every win we achieved, except for two or three, came with great difficulty. We only need two wins to claim the title, but the last three matches have proven how hard it is to win, especially at the end of the season. We will return next week to face Leicester, and we will do our best."
