Kompany: We Trust Ourselves Despite the Circumstances, and the Klassiker Hasn't Lost Its Spark
Vincent Kompany, the head coach of Bayern Munich, spoke about his team's final preparations ahead of the highly anticipated match against Borussia Dortmund, in the top clash of the 29th round of the Bundesliga, which will take place at the Allianz Arena.
The Bavarian team is looking to regain its local prestige in a fiery encounter against their traditional rivals, in a match that is not without tension and excitement, amid difficult circumstances where Bayern is suffering from several injuries and a numerical shortage in the team’s roster.
Kompany said: "Alex Pavlovich and Kingsley Coman will train today; they will undergo some medical tests, but that won’t change our lineup considerations for the match against Dortmund."
He added: "As for Neuer, I cannot currently comment on his status for the return match against Inter Milan in the Champions League."
He continued: "The Klassiker has not lost its charm; yes, our matches against Bayer Leverkusen have been great, but I grew up on matches between Bayern and Dortmund or Werder Bremen, and these encounters have always been significant, and it's good to have some tension before such meetings."
He went on: "We are at a crucial stage of the season; we cannot set priorities now, only 15 players have Bundesliga experience, and we need every element in the team, as every player will have an influential role at this stage."
Regarding Julian Duranville, he said: "Duranville was one of the standout talents in the Anderlecht academy and was the best at his age, but unfortunately, injuries have hindered his career. I wish him success in the future, but not starting tomorrow."
About Leroy Sané, Kompany stated: "Sané has been performing well for a while, which is why he started many recent matches. He is one of the talents we rely on a lot and has scored crucial goals; I have no doubt about his ability to maintain this performance."
When asked about Müller and the match against Inter, he said: "I cannot determine Müller’s status for the match against Inter Milan, but his recent goal against them was a wonderful moment for us, and we aim to replicate such moments in the coming weeks."
He concluded his statements, saying: "I believe that what we showed against Inter Milan gives us a strong boost; we have faith that we can win in Milan, and we feel that we can triumph in any match, including tomorrow's encounter against Dortmund."
