Amorim: We Will Continue to Improve, and We Won't Wait Years to Compete for the Title
Rubin Amorim, the head coach of Manchester United, confirmed that the team is striving to improve its level quickly in order to be able to compete for the Premier League title, emphasizing that he does not want to wait for many years to achieve that.
Amorim spoke at the press conference before the Manchester derby against Manchester City, saying: "I am not naive and I do not believe in the idea that we need many years to become real competitors; I cannot manage the team with that mindset, and I cannot work in that way, which is why I put pressure on myself from now on."
He continued: "I know we are not the strongest competitors at the moment, and we may not be so in the next season or the one after, but I do not accept the idea that we need a lot of time to become a strong team."
He added: "The goal is clear; next season we must be much better. I am not saying we will win the title immediately, but we will not allow ourselves to wait long."
He went on: "This is a big club, and I do not want to be the coach who sits here and says we need time; we are in a hurry, and we need to improve quickly."
He explained: "All other teams are developing, and we need to focus on our strengths and leverage the club's potential to attract top players who will help us achieve our goals."
Regarding the players' situation before the derby, he said: "Kobey Maino has returned to training, but we will assess his condition before the match; he cannot play 90 minutes because he has been out for a long time, while Matthias de Ligt is suffering from a minor issue he sustained in the last match, and we need to evaluate him as well before the encounter."
When asked about Manchester City's level, especially after their decline in December, the Portuguese coach clarified: "I am more focused on our problems because we have things to improve more than Manchester City; City is a strong team and has the ability to play in different ways, which makes facing them very complicated."
He confirmed: "They have one of the best coaches in the world and exceptional players in every position, so we know it will be a difficult match, but my main focus is on developing our team, not on monitoring City's improvement."
He continued: "For me, winning one match is not a special moment; the real moment is when we become a team capable of consistently competing for titles."
He affirmed: "Even small teams can beat big teams in one match, but the important thing is to build a team capable of winning championships."
He concluded by saying: "I am here to make Manchester United a great team again, and that requires hard work and rapid improvement, not waiting years to achieve that."
