Everton Condemns Threats Against Tarkowski After Liverpool Derby
Everton Football Club has issued an official statement condemning the threats received by defender James Tarkowski and his family, following the events of the Merseyside derby against Liverpool in the Premier League.
The club confirmed in its statement that the threats directed at Tarkowski via social media are completely unacceptable and have no place in football or society, and announced its readiness to cooperate with social media companies and the police to support any potential investigations.
These threats came after a strong challenge from Tarkowski on Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister during the match, for which he received a yellow card, but the Premier League's officiating body later deemed the challenge worthy of a red card.
For her part, Samantha, the player's wife, described the abuse directed at her husband on Instagram as disgusting, noting that the comments included wishes for his death and personal insults against her and her family.
She stated: "Football is a sport, but some fans cross the line, we are real people and this goes far beyond football."
After the match, Tarkowski confirmed that he apologized to Mac Allister, admitting that his challenge was not good.
