German national team coach Julian Nagelsmann appeared in press statements after the 2-1 victory over Italy in the first leg of the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals.

The coach spoke about Goretzka's performance: "I am very happy for him. I think he had a fantastic game, especially in the second half, both defensively and offensively. He impacted the game from both sides. It was a great performance."

He added: "I am very pleased that we came back after being down 0-1 and won the match. We talked before the game about our desire to win both legs. The players who participated performed excellently."

He continued: "We could have scored more goals in the second half; we faced some issues in the first half - we didn’t change much [in the second half] except for the players. The team showed determination and gave their all to win today."

Regarding the return match: "Tickets for the match sold out in two hours. We delivered an exciting match in Dortmund during the Euros against Denmark, and the fan support was fantastic. I look forward to the match in another great stadium. Our fans were loud here today, and I hope they will be even louder on Sunday."
