Barcelona Delays Return to Camp Nou
The Spanish club Barcelona has been forced to delay its expected return to its historic Camp Nou stadium due to ongoing renovation work, which will require the team to continue playing at the Olympic Stadium of Lluís Companys until the end of the current season.
The reopening of Camp Nou in its new state was scheduled for last November, but progress on construction has not proceeded according to the planned timeline, prompting the club's management to postpone the return to ensure that the updates are completed as required.
According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo," the cost of the stadium renovation will reach £1.25 billion, as reports confirmed that Barcelona has reached an agreement to extend the use of the Olympic Stadium of Lluís Companys until May 18, the date of their last home match this season against Villarreal.
Amid ongoing repairs, the club is considering the option of playing at the Estadi de les Corts, which has a capacity of 60,000 spectators, as a temporary solution during the next season before moving to the newly renovated Camp Nou.
Barcelona has announced the extension of the validity of season tickets for the 2024/2025 season, covering all of the team's matches in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League until the end of the season, while the club sent an email to season ticket holders in Montjuïc, allowing them the option to extend their tickets via a dedicated link.
