Minister of Sports: Al Ahly Must Bear the Consequences of Its Withdrawal from the Summit
Tuesday 18-03-2025
Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, confirmed that the crisis of the recent summit match, and Al Ahly's withdrawal from this encounter, along with the awarding of three points to Zamalek, is the result of the red team's decision to withdraw from the summit.

Sobhy stated in radio remarks: "Last season, Zamalek bore the consequences of its withdrawal, and the clubs' association applied the withdrawal decision to it."

He added: "Al Ahly decided to withdraw from the summit match this season, and it must bear its decision; the ministry has no connection to the crisis, and there are regulations that must be applied."

He continued: "Al Ahly is an institution owned by the Egyptian people, and Zamalek is also owned by the Egyptian people, and the state has a stake in what happens if the matter turns into a social issue."

He further stated: "We have three institutions: the clubs' association, which manages the league; the Football Association, which organizes the league and has the right to manage football, owning everything related to football in Egypt from FIFA."

He added: "My intervention came because the association sent a request to the Football Association on March 9 for foreign referees, while the Football Association's regulations allow for approval or rejection amid official visits from officials."

The minister concluded his remarks: "I contacted the Saudi Ministry of Sports, and a Saudi crew was brought for the Al Ahly vs. Zamalek match, and everyone is responsible for their decision."
