The French league officially announced the cancellation of the Montpellier vs. Saint-Étienne match, which was part of the 26th round of the competition, following crowd disturbances that led to the permanent stoppage of the match.

In an official statement, it was mentioned: "The match between Montpellier and Saint-Étienne was halted in the 57th minute after Montpellier fans threw smoke bombs onto the pitch and into the stands, causing a fire to break out."

Following a meeting with representatives from both teams and security authorities, the match referee, François Letexier, announced at a press conference: "By decision of the public authority, it has been decided not to resume the match."

The French league's website clarified that the disciplinary committee will make its decision regarding the match result in the coming days, as the score was 2-0 in favor of Saint-Étienne before the match was stopped.

It is noteworthy that the disturbances included setting fire in the stands, in addition to throwing fireworks and bottles onto the pitch, prompting the referee to halt the match to ensure everyone's safety.
