Saudi Referee Crew on Their Way to Cairo
Media personality Ibrahim Fayek revealed that the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports, headed by Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, has contacted its Saudi counterpart to request a foreign referee crew to officiate the summit match between Zamalek and Al Ahly.
The Egyptian media figure wrote on his social media account on 'X': 'The Ministry of Youth and Sports was asked to take action late, and this was in the afternoon today. Dr. Ashraf Sobhi contacted his Saudi counterpart, who kindly hurried to send a foreign referee crew from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.'
He added: 'They will arrive in Cairo (on their way now) at 11:45 PM after the match. The ministry tried to resolve the issue amicably between the parties to postpone the match by 24 hours, but so far, this has been unsuccessful, especially.'
He concluded his remarks: 'With Zamalek insisting on its position and officially announcing in closed rooms its refusal to postpone for any reason, Dr. Mohamed Shazly, the official spokesperson for the ministry, confirmed to me that if the ministry had been called upon to resolve the issue from the beginning, it would have helped swiftly.'
