Pioli: We Will Secure Our Victory Over Esteghlal Without Needing Penalties
The Italian coach of Al-Nassr, Stefano Pioli, confirmed that his team will not reach penalties in the match against Esteghlal and will secure the victory in regular time.
Al-Nassr hosts Esteghlal in the second leg of the Round of 16 of the AFC Champions League at the "Al-Faisal Park" stadium on Monday evening.
In his statements at the pre-match press conference, Pioli said: "We are going into an important match, and we need to win it to qualify for the next round of the AFC Champions League."
He added: "It doesn't matter whether we are rested or not; we will work to win and secure the qualification ticket to the next round."
He continued: "The passion and effort of Al-Nassr's team is what has helped us in the past period. It is true that we are facing a lot of pressure and a high number of matches, along with several injuries, but our goal is always to win."
Pioli further stated: "At the moment, we are not concerned with what happened in the past; our only goal now is to focus on tomorrow's match and achieve victory and qualification."
He added: "I have confidence in the players, and I believe we will not reach penalties, so we did not focus on that in training. Instead, our focus is on concluding the match and winning. It is impossible to play with the same 11 players in consecutive matches as we are facing a lot of pressure and injuries, and rotation is necessary."
He concluded: "There is a buildup of matches, and we performed remarkably against Al-Ahly, then faced a lot of match pressure and numerous injuries. Therefore, I do not want to talk about the past because the present is what matters."
