El Shorta Sporting Club, established in 1980, is affiliated with Egypt's Ministry of Interior. The club first competed in the Egyptian Premier League during the 2008–2009 season and remained until relegation to the second division in 2015–2016, followed by a drop to the third division in 2017–2018.
