Madagascar. The Madagascar national football team is the official representative of the Republic of Madagascar in international competitions, overseen by the Malagasy Football Federation (FMF), which was established in 1961 and joined FIFA in 1964. The Madagascar team is considered one of the rising teams in the African continent, achieving its most notable accomplishment by qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations 2019 for the first time and reaching the quarter-finals in a major surprise that was praised by international media. The team is known by the nickname "the Barea" and plays its matches at the Stade de Mahamasina in Antananarivo and sometimes at other stadiums within the country.
