Koeman: This is what we have to do to reach the final, and the result is the most important

Dutch national team coach Ronald Koeman appeared in press statements, after the 3-0 victory over Romania in the European Nations Cup final.

Koeman said: “In some cases... Sometimes it is difficult to explain why you played poorly and why you reached a high level. Today was a difficult start, but in the end we found our way and caused them problems. We caused Romania big problems with our attack.”

On comparisons with previous Dutch generations: “We have great talent in the team. Of course you need to win something – then people will compare it to 1988. Football has changed since then. You have seen in the last few matches that everyone has faced Problems to continue in the tournament.”

He stressed: “The final result is always the most important, though, and we have to play well. The whole performance today was great. This is what we need to have a chance to continue in this tournament. If our performance declines, we will not reach the final.”

On replacing Bergwijn: “He had some problems physically. We didn't want to take any risks. We made the decision to change at half-time."

He concluded: "Jacopo was very important again. He is physically strong, fast and has additional qualities.”
