Cristiano Ronaldo announces international retirement

Cristiano Ronaldo has announced the end of his international career with Portugal, after a journey that lasted 23 years since his debut in August 2003, during which he achieved many accomplishments and records, bringing his time as captain of the national team to a close.

Cristiano Ronaldo made the announcement through a statement posted on his official social media accounts, following a period of reflection and evaluation, confirming that the time has come to pass the number 7 shirt to the next generations.

The captain of the Portugal national team stated: "Today is the day I return the number 7 shirt of our national team to everyone. I have never felt that it was mine alone, but I have had the honor and responsibility of wearing it and defending it for 23 years, carrying it with me to pitches around the world."

He added: "The decision was not easy, as there are decisions that are not made by the mind alone, but the heart is also involved. Today marks the end of a journey that began in August 2003 and changed my life forever. When I look back, I don't just remember the matches, goals, records, and titles, but I also remember the people."

The Portuguese star spoke about his connection with the fans throughout his international career, saying: "I remember the immigrants who felt that Portugal became closer to them during 90 minutes, and the millions of Portuguese people I have not met personally, but who have been a part of my life, because football is much more than just a game, it is about people."

Cristiano Ronaldo explained that he has always strived to give his best while wearing the Portugal shirt, adding: "I wanted to win and be the best and make history, and I have always been strict with myself and aspire for more, believing that we are capable of going further, and I gave everything I have for this shirt."

Cristiano Ronaldo reflected on the highlights of his international journey, pointing to the victories and defeats he has experienced. He said: "We have lived through perfect evenings and victories that I will never forget, as well as defeats that are still hard for me to remember. I made mistakes and suffered, and there were moments when I couldn't give the Portuguese people what they wished for, but I never gave up, and I never lost my sense of pride in representing Portugal."

Ronaldo concluded his remarks by emphasizing that the value of achievements is not limited to numbers and trophies, stating: "Goals pass, cups remain in museums, and records are broken by others, but there is something that time can never erase, which is the place we hold in people's hearts."
