Draw settles COD Meknès and AS FAR Rabat clash in professional league
The strong encounter between COD Meknès and AS FAR Rabat ended in a goalless draw, in the match that took place on Sunday evening at the Stade Chérifien in Meknès, as part of the sixth round of the Moroccan Professional League.
Despite a large crowd and both teams' clear desire to secure three points, defensive solidity and a lack of attacking effectiveness prevented any goals, as both defenses managed to stop most attempts during the first half, which ended in a goalless draw.
With the start of the second half, both teams tried to raise the pace of play and apply more pressure on the goals. The coaches of COD Meknès and AS FAR Rabat also resorted to making substitutions to energize the attacking line, but the offensive attempts lacked the final touch, amid defensive alertness and the difficulty of penetrating the back areas.
COD Meknès were the more dangerous side at times during the match, and they nearly earned a penalty in the dying seconds of stoppage time after their players called for a foul inside the box following a challenge by AS FAR Rabat defender Fallou Mendy on one of the attackers, but the referee ordered play to continue, without receiving a signal from the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
With this result, COD Meknès has raised its tally to 11 points, losing the top position to Kawkab Marrakech, who are at the summit with 13 points. Meanwhile, AS FAR Rabat has reached 8 points from four matches, placing them in sixth position.
