Officially: Alexia Putellas wins the women's Ballon d'Or for 2026
Spanish player Alexia Putellas, of London City Lionesses, has won the 2026 Ballon d'Or for the third time in her career during the ceremony held in the British capital, London, equalling her compatriot Aitana Bonmatí in the number of times winning the award.
According to French newspaper "L'Équipe", Putellas, aged 32, previously won the award in 2021 and 2022, before reclaiming it this year in place of Bonmatí, who won it three times in a row between 2023 and 2025 but was absent from the nominees list for the 2026 edition due to injury.
Patri Guijarro had an outstanding season with FC Barcelona in the 2025/2026 season, contributing to four titles, including the UEFA Champions League, where she was named the best player after scoring seven goals and providing seven assists, before moving to London City in the summer of 2026.
The midfielder scored 25 goals and provided 14 assists for club and country this season before receiving the Ballon d'Or from Englishman Michael Owen, the winner in 2001.
