Al Karkh hold Al Shorta to a 1-1 draw in the league
Al Karkh held Al Shorta to a 1-1 draw in their match in the 10th round of the Iraq Stars League, which featured significant fluctuations and an early red card in the second half.
The police entered the match strongly and were the better side in the first half in terms of possession and control of the midfield, trying to impose their style. However, Al Karkh was not an easy prey, as they presented excellent and organized football, proving to be a real challenge for the defending champions.
Despite numerous attempts from both sides, the first half ended goalless with clear standout performances from the defensive lines and goalkeepers.
In the second half, the match turned upside down as in the 55th minute, Al-Shorta's player Abdul Majid Abu Bakr received a straight red card for his violent challenge on one of Al Karkh's players, leading to his immediate dismissal and putting his team in a difficult position with a numerical disadvantage.
Al Karkh took advantage of their numerical superiority to score the opening goal through Naude Zeguei in the 57th minute, giving the Canaries the lead and igniting the stands.
However, the police response was swift and did not take long. In the 62nd minute, Hussein Ali managed to equalize for his team, bringing the match back to square one despite being a man down, confirming the character of the Green Lyre.
After that, both teams tried to snatch a winning goal and exchanged attacks until the final minutes, but the score remained unchanged, ending the match in a 1-1 draw.
With this result, Al-Shorta missed a win that was within reach and raised their tally to seventeen points, dropping to sixth place in the standings in a result that does not serve their ambitions in the competition for the top spot.
Al Karkh earned an important point against Al Qithara, reaching eight points in 17th place and confirming their improved form in recent rounds.
