Foden: It wasn't a beautiful match technically, and that didn't affect us
Phil Foden, Manchester City’s midfielder, spoke after the 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town in the seventh round of the Premier League.
Phil Foden stated in an interview on "Match of the Day": "It wasn't a pretty game from a technical standpoint, and I think they put in a really good performance. They pressed us hard in advanced areas and made things very difficult for us. Sometimes, games in the Premier League won't be pretty; every team has become very strong, and encounters are always a big challenge. The most important thing was to come away with the three points, and we are very happy overall."
Regarding his goal, Phil Foden said: "It's a great feeling. Obviously, I've missed some big chances this season, but I knew that the moment to score would come sooner or later. Enzo told me I would score today, so I thank him for that. I think he gave me the luck I needed, and I'm obviously happy to help the team. Our goal today was to collect the three points, as that puts us in a very good position now."
Foden added: "This gives you a lot of confidence, and it makes us go onto the pitch wanting to express ourselves and give the coach what he wants. I tried to do that in the best way possible today."
Phil Foden has spoken about the impact of Manchester City's alleged 115 breaches of Premier League rules, saying: "It hasn't affected us at all. We have stuck together and continued to do what we are used to. We stood by each other, acted naturally, and I think we have dealt with it very well. We have great characters and leaders in the dressing room, and we are fully focused on each game individually, striving to give our best."
Regarding the potential injuries suffered by Erling Haaland, Mateo Kovačić, and Antoine Semenyo, he said: "I hope their injuries are not serious. I don't know yet, as I haven't gone to check on them. I hope none of them is facing a long-term injury, and I pray that no player has been injured."
Foden concluded his remarks about the inflatable banana he had with him, saying: "I will probably keep it, and maybe give it to my son as a gift from me. I heard they call it Barney the banana, and I think I will keep that name."
