New plant species named after Messi discovered in Peru
A new type of plant discovered in the Andes mountains of central and southern Peru has been named after Argentine star Lionel Messi, in honor of the 39-year-old player.
According to a recent academic study, a plant species has been named "Salvia messii" and classified as endangered.
The plant is characterized by its light blue and white flowers, colors that are emblematic of the Argentina national team, in a striking resemblance to the colors of the team that Messi led to victory in the FIFA World Cup 2022.
This tribute is a special gesture towards the captain of Argentina, as his name will remain present not only in the world of football but also in scientific research related to biodiversity.
