Arsenal and Manchester United are not planning immediate steps to sign Uruguayan Maxi Araújo, a Sporting Lisbon full-back, despite both clubs' ongoing interest, according to British website "Sport Witness", citing an informed source.

Araujo joined Sporting Lisbon in 2024 from Toluca, before his performances caught the attention of several Premier League clubs. The interested parties included Tottenham, Chelsea, Newcastle, Aston Villa, and Manchester City, along with Arsenal and Manchester United, but none were able to finalize the deal during the last summer transfer window.

On August 3, the player renewed his contract with Sporting Lisbon until 2030, having received an improved deal, temporarily ending speculation about his future. Despite recent reports suggesting that Arsenal and Manchester United were preparing offers worth €65 million, a source told "Sport Witness" that "there is nothing new" in this matter, indicating that there have been no developments since the two clubs expressed their interest in the player six months ago.

Araujo impressed last season, scoring seven goals and providing six assists in 47 matches, while playing primarily as a left-back.

He has continued to feature in Sporting's starting lineup this season, scoring one goal and providing two assists in three matches. His market value on Transfermarkt rose to €40 million last July, up from €5.5 million when he joined the Portuguese club in 2024.
