Seminio left stunned after racist abuse in Liverpool vs Bournemouth clash
The BBC has revealed new details in the alleged racial abuse case involving Antoine Semenyo, the Bournemouth player at the time and currently at Manchester City, during the match against Liverpool on August 15, 2025, after the Liverpool court listened to testimonies regarding the incident.
According to the prosecution's presentation in court, fan Mark Morgan, 47, directed racist abuse at Semenyo while he was preparing to take a throw-in, before hurling further offensive remarks at him.
The prosecutor Simon Jones stated that the player "froze for a moment because he couldn't believe what the man said," confirming that he appeared affected by what he had experienced.
The prosecution clarified that Semenyo informed referee Anthony Taylor of the incident when the ball went out of play, before the accused fan was removed from the stands during the half-time break.
The court heard witness testimonies and viewed video footage of the incident, while the prosecution stated that the fan threw gum towards the player, hitting him on his clothing.
On the other hand, Mogan denies the accusation against him, claiming that he urged the player to hurry up with a throw-in, and he alleged that Semenio described him as having a physical disability, which angered him.
The player was scheduled to testify via video link, but the trial saw a development after the defendant suffered a health crisis and was taken to hospital, prompting the court to postpone the proceedings to a later date.
