Simeone: Discussing this decision will change nothing, it was a tough day for us
Diego Simeone, the manager of Atlético Madrid, praised his players' performance following the 2-0 win against Manchester United in the second round of the UEFA Champions League. He also spoke about the impressive displays from Pablo Barrios and Ademola Lookman, and addressed the controversy regarding the handball incident involving Marcos Llorente.
Diego Simeone spoke about the news of Koke's mother's passing: "It was a difficult day. The death of a family member of a football player, and someone like Koke, is painful. But the players delivered a wonderful match and showed great sensitivity when they lifted his shirt to honor his memory at this moment. We played an important match."
Speaking about Pablo Barrios scoring the opening goal, Atlético Madrid's coach said: "It was a good transitional attack in the offensive phase. Barrios needed to score a goal to connect with what he needs to continue developing, which is scoring. This makes us happy."
Diego Simeone spoke about Ademola Lookman, who scored the second goal, saying: "He is a very important player, and he has very good numbers. He is also good at scoring and dribbling in one-on-one situations. He wasn't showing the period where these capabilities were clear, but he has regained his scoring instinct and showed his instinct to follow the attack, as the rebound helped him. We achieved a win that we needed."
He concluded about the potential handball on Marcos Llorente before Cardoso's goal that was disallowed: "It's sometimes hard to understand the rule. If this is the explanation they have relied on, we have to accept it, because discussing the decision won't change anything."
