New statement from Zamalek after refereeing crisis in the derby match
Zamalek continue to escalate their stance against the referees' committee regarding officiating errors in the Cairo derby against Al Ahly, which took place last Sunday as part of the Premier League.
Zamalek have announced they are filing a complaint regarding the referee's decisions in the match against Al Ahly. The white club issued a new statement, announcing they are giving the Egyptian Football Association a deadline to respond to the complaint and to listen to the VAR room.
The statement read as follows:
Following ongoing consultations within the board of directors of Zamalek SC regarding the events of the recent Cairo Derby and the refereeing mistakes witnessed during the match, the board has decided to take a number of measures to protect the rights of the club and its fans, as follows:
Firstly, the Egyptian Football Association has granted a 48-hour deadline for a final response to the complaint submitted by the club against the main referees' committee regarding the serious errors that harmed Zamalek during the derby.
Secondly, coordination with the Football Association to send a delegation from the club to listen to the recordings from the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) room regarding the match, to understand what transpired inside the room and the reasons for the lack of intervention by the technology in the cases that affected the course of the match and its outcome.
Thirdly: citing the statement made by Issam Abdel Fattah, head of the referees committee at the Football Association, during the interview with the journalist Saif Zahir on ON Sport channel, noting that the football refereeing law is the same worldwide.
Fourthly: communication with the Supreme Council for Media Regulation to demand the swift implementation of necessary measures and accountability for the appearance of abusive chants against Zamalek during the televised broadcast of the match, ensuring adherence to media regulations and standards while preserving sports and societal values.
In conclusion, Zamalek has confirmed its commitment to defending its fans' rights to ensure that referee errors against the club do not happen again. The club has suffered greatly from these mistakes throughout its long history and has paid a heavy price for them. It will not be acceptable for the situation to remain as it is, regardless of the consequences, as Zamalek is keen to establish the principle of justice within the Egyptian football system as a whole.
