Mbappé closes in on Messi's Champions League record
Kylian Mbappé, the French forward for Real Madrid, is close to breaking a record held by Argentine Lionel Messi in the UEFA Champions League, as he is just one appearance away from reaching 100 matches in the competition, which would make him the youngest player to achieve this milestone in the tournament's history, should he participate against AS Roma.
According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", Kylian Mbappé has played 99 matches in the UEFA Champions League, distributed between AS Monaco with 9 matches, Paris Saint-Germain with 64 matches, and Real Madrid with 26 matches.
Kylian Mbappé is 27 years and 298 days old, giving him the chance to surpass the record held by Lionel Messi, who reached 100 matches in the UEFA Champions League at the age of 28 years and 84 days.
In a twist of fate, Messi achieved this feat against AS Roma in September 2015, and Mbappé may break his record against the same Italian team if he participates in the upcoming match.
