Elias Akhomach on the Ceuta shirt controversy: Everyone has the right to decide
Moroccan international Elias Akhomach, a player for Villarreal, has broken his silence regarding the controversy surrounding the Ceuta support shirts, emphasizing his full respect for freedom of choice. He stressed that the role of players is limited to playing football and entertaining fans, away from engaging in political battles.
In a press interview, Akhoumash touched on the subject, explaining that wearing these shirts or not remains a personal decision for each individual, and it should not become a matter of dispute among people. He stated: "Everyone has the right to do what they want. I think it's good for some to wear this shirt, and I also believe that others have the right not to wear it. Each person makes their own decisions."
The Villarreal player confirmed that he prefers to keep his focus on the sporting side, noting that his team is preparing to play a football match and does not wish to be distracted by issues outside the scope of his mission on the pitch.
In discussing international issues, Akhoumash pointed out that football players do not necessarily have the ability to change situations, stating that the responsibility in this matter primarily lies with politicians and relevant authorities.
He added that he is not inclined to expand on these discussions, especially since he is not well-versed in their details, stressing that what occupies him is his work on the pitch and contributing to delivering a match that the fans enjoy.
Akhomash concluded his statements by affirming that the players' primary objective is to work on the pitch and provide entertainment for the fans, away from engaging in political discussions that he does not see as part of their direct responsibilities.
