Isaac Touré returns to Lorient after more than two years away
French defender Isaac Touré has returned to the starting lineup for Lorient after starting in the win against Paris FC by a goal to nil on Saturday evening in Ligue 1, marking his first start for the team in over two years.
Yaya Touré's last major appearance for Lorient was on April 28, 2024, against Toulouse, before his participation dwindled due to injuries and off-field issues. He managed to appear for only 30 minutes in Ligue 1 during May, before getting his new chance against Paris FC, where he played for 87 minutes.
The player said after the match: "I had a strong desire to prove myself again. I showed patience and worked hard to get the chance to start, playing matches with the reserve team, and I put in a lot of effort in training, which the coaching staff rewarded me for. I thank them for that, as I have always believed in my abilities."
Toure, who moved to Lorient from Olympique Marseille in 2023 for around 8 million euros, added: "I must admit that I had largely fallen out of the plans. I want to apologize again to the club and the fans, as I may have disappointed them in the past. I have learned from my mistakes and have become more mature. In my last match at the Stade du Moustoir against Toulouse, I was met with boos, but this time I left the pitch to applause from the fans, which affected me greatly. The pitch doesn't lie, and everyone saw that I have changed."
The French defender, who stands 2.06 meters tall, admitted that his previous issues were not solely related to football, saying: "My biggest problems at the beginning were related to off-field matters, but I have dealt with these issues. I was young and made mistakes, and I am aware of that. Now I am here to help the team."
Yaya Touré has the chance to revive his career with Lorient after a difficult period away from regular participation, in an attempt to regain the trust of the coaching staff and the fans.
