Koller: I faced things with Al Ahly that don't happen in Europe
Swiss coach Marcel Koller, the former manager of Al Ahly FC, spoke about his experience with the club, confirming that he faced some issues that do not occur in Europe.
Koller stated during an interview with the Swiss newspaper "Neue Zürcher Zeitung" that he has not changed during his time with Al Ahly FC, but has gained more experience due to dealing with different circumstances than those he was used to in Europe and Switzerland.
The Swiss head coach highlighted that his experience with Al Ahly FC involved unusual events and situations compared to the established systems at giants in Europe like Bayern Munich and Manchester City. He also emphasized that this unique phase in his career at the Red Castle has provided him with additional dimensions and experiences, both in practical and human aspects.
The former coach of Al Ahly FC spoke about the difficulties the team faced during their trips to play CAF Champions League matches away from home, explaining that some journeys took around 14 hours.
He added that players sometimes had to sleep on the floor of the plane using blankets, without complaining about those conditions, in a scene that reflects the nature of the challenges the team faced during continental competitions.
Koller discussed his lifestyle in Egypt, revealing how his personal freedom was directly tied to Al Ahly FC's results. He preferred isolation and avoided going out completely after any loss, while victories turned the scene upside down, surprising him with large numbers of fans gathering around him in public places wanting to take commemorative photos with him.
He confirmed that the sharp fluctuations in fan sentiment have given him greater flexibility in crisis management and dealing with various pressing circumstances, emphasizing that his experience within Al Ahly FC has been a pivotal moment that added depth and exceptional experiences to his coaching career.
