De Gea's future with ACF Fiorentina uncertain despite contract extension until 2028
David de Gea's future with ACF Fiorentina remains uncertain, despite his contract with the Italian club running until June 2028, according to "Corriere dello Sport".
According to the newspaper, De Gea has regained his form in recent matches, having delivered a crucial performance against Pisa and Napoli, confirming his ability to continue shining despite the team's difficult start to the current season.
Despite improving his performance, the salary of the Spanish goalkeeper, amounting to €3 million net annually, is an important factor for ACF Fiorentina's management, which is looking to reduce the wage bill and reorganize the salary structure within the team.
The club's management is considering parting ways with De Gea at the end of the season, after the option of his departure was previously raised last summer. The sporting management, led by Fabio Paratici, will evaluate his future and make the appropriate decision in the coming months.
In contrast, young goalkeeper Tommaso Martinelli, currently on loan at Avellino, is emerging as a candidate to succeed De Gea in the future, providing ACF Fiorentina with an internal option to renew the goalkeeper position, although this does not mean a final decision has been made regarding the Spanish goalkeeper just yet.
