Paris Brunner banned for 4 matches for throat-slitting gesture towards Strasbourg fans

The French league's disciplinary committee has decided to suspend German Paris Brunner, AS Monaco's forward, for four matches, two of which are suspended, due to his controversial celebration during the match against Strasbourg in the 3rd round of Ligue 1.

Paris Brunner sparked controversy by mimicking a slaughtering gesture in front of Strasbourg fans after scoring during the match that took place on 12 September.

The punishment came after the National Ethics Council referred the incident to the Disciplinary Committee, which reviewed the player's conduct before issuing its decision to suspend him for four matches, with two of those matches being effective immediately, while the other two are suspended.

As a result, Paris Brunner will miss AS Monaco's next two matches in Ligue 1, while the additional two matches will only come into effect if he commits an offence that warrants a suspended ban.

The player had previously apologized for his behavior, stating that he did not intend to offend, but that did not prevent the disciplinary committee from imposing a penalty on him.
