Officially.. De la Fuente extends contract with Spain national team

The Spanish Football Federation has announced the extension of Luis de la Fuente's contract as head coach of the Spanish national team until 2032.

The decision came after the executive committee of the Spanish Football Federation unanimously agreed to extend the coach's contract during their meeting held in the Football City in Las Rozas, chaired by Rafael Lozano.

Luis de la Fuente's contract renewal comes after the great success he achieved with the Spain national team in the FIFA World Cup 2026, having led "La Roja" to win the FIFA World Cup.

Rafael Lozano, the president of the Spanish Football Federation, during his speech before the executive committee, said: "We are looking for a project based on stability and trust. It is a proposal based on trust in Luis de la Fuente and the sports project he leads, for a competitive cycle that extends over several years and includes participation in important tournaments."

He added: "We are talking about the most decorated coach in the history of the Spain national team, and after fourteen years spent within our house, Luis de la Fuente deserves a long future at the Spanish Football Federation."

The new contract for La Fuente runs until 2032, with major tournaments in sight, including the UEFA European Championships in 2028 and 2032, as well as the FIFA World Cup in 2030, which will be hosted by Spain in partnership with Portugal, Morocco, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina.

The agreement will be officially presented in the City of Football, with the presence of Luis de la Fuente and several representatives of Spanish football, where the outlines for the next phase of the Spanish national team project, World Cup champions, will be laid out.

The upcoming phase includes preparations for the UEFA Euro 2028, alongside competing in the UEFA Nations League, which kicks off in September and October, where the Spanish national team faces England, Croatia, and the Czech Republic.

The Spanish Football Federation's executive committee has also approved the extension of Jesús Velasco's contract as coach of the Spain national futsal team, allowing him to continue in his role until July 2029. The agreement will be officially presented in the coming period.
