Tunisian club Esperance awaits departure of Reghecampf and identifies top alternatives

Romanian coach Laurențiu Reghecampf is close to leaving Tunisian club Espérance, having received an official offer from Steaua Bucharest, where he previously managed at the start of his career, according to reports.

Espérance de Tunis have begun their moves in anticipation of their coach's departure, as they have entered discussions with several coaches and agents to ensure the team's technical stability during the upcoming phase.

Riguecamf has taken charge of Espérance since last July, leading them to three wins and one loss in four Tunisian league matches.

According to Romanian media reports, Reghecampf has contacted Steaua Bucharest president, businessman Gigi Becali, who confirmed that he has received the approval of the 51-year-old coach to take over the team after the heavy loss to Craiova by five goals to nil.

Beccali initially attempted to sign coach Mirel Rădoi before turning his attention to Reghecampf, who welcomed the idea of returning to Steaua Bucharest. Sources indicated that the coach agreed to a reasonable salary in exchange for bonuses and incentives linked to results, which could total up to €100,000 per month.

Despite the publication of photos of the team's training with Rigikamf present, the club's management has begun to consider several alternatives in anticipation of confirming his departure.

Tunisian Jalal Qadri, the coach of Al Hazm, is at the forefront of the names being considered to replace Rigikamf, after receiving an initial call from Chokri Wa'ar, the football supervisor at Espérance.

Al-Qadri is 55 years old and has been managing Al-Hazm since the 2024-2025 season, where he led them back to the Saudi Professional League, before achieving good results with them during the last season.

Khadri previously managed the Tunisian national team, leading them in the 2022 World Cup where they achieved a historic victory over the then-defending champions France, despite failing to qualify for the knockout stage.

Serbian coach Nestor Maestro has entered the list of candidates to take over at Esperance, alongside Qadri, should Răzvan Lucescu confirm his departure to Steaua Bucharest.

Esperance Tunis is set to announce its official position regarding the future of its coach in the coming hours, amid ongoing negotiations between Reghecampf and the Romanian club.

Jalal Qadri is among the top candidates for the position, with Néstor Maestro also included in the list.
