Messi donates €2.6 million to establish a children's cancer treatment center in FC Barcelona

Argentinian star Lionel Messi has donated €2.6 million through his charitable foundation to help establish a specialized center for treating childhood cancer in the city of Barcelona.

The donation is for the SJD Pediatric Cancer Center, a large medical project with a total cost of around 30 million euros, covering an area of 5,137 square meters, and it will be able to accommodate approximately 400 patients annually.

The center aims to gather various services related to childhood cancer treatment in one place, contributing to specialized care for patients and their families. The project is funded by several institutions, companies, and individuals, including Messi through his charitable foundation.

The Messi Foundation's work is not limited to health; it is also active in education, sports, and humanitarian efforts. Among its initiatives are supporting leukemia research in children and providing equipment to a hospital in Rosario, the player's hometown, alongside projects to combat child malnutrition in Mozambique.

The organization uses sports as a means to promote social integration, by organizing events, activities, and sports courses, as well as renovating and building sports fields in different areas, including Argentina, where one school and the local community benefited from one of these projects.
