Arteta: We received a big lesson, and Brighton deserved to win

Spanish manager Mikel Arteta acknowledged Brighton's right to win against his team, 3-0 in the fifth round of the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta said in statements to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Brighton deserved to win the match. We did not do the basics correctly for long periods, especially in the first half. We did not win enough duels, as well as second balls, and that makes you more vulnerable to being stretched on the pitch."

He added: "With the mistakes we made, especially regarding the principles we didn't apply against a team that wants to press you, we constantly put ourselves under pressure, and we couldn't get out of that pressure the way we usually do. There is a lot to learn and benefit from, but in the end, we feel disappointed."

Regarding Arsenal's inability to find solutions during the match, Arteta said: "There are two things, the first is to give them their due, because of the way they played and their commitment to every action and every ball. We were below the standards required of us, as well as the standards required in the Premier League."

He continued: "When you waste the chances that were given to us, it becomes impossible. I want to congratulate Brighton on what they delivered. It is a big lesson for us to learn from."

Arsenal's manager concluded his remarks by saying: "If I had to describe the team's style of play and competitiveness over the past six or seven weeks, it has been exceptional, but today was a big lesson for us."
